Troughton played “Vickers – Currie’s Business Partner”, in the final episode of the first season of this British series for ITV. The series starred Deborah Watling who would play “Victoria Waterfield”, one o the Second Doctor’s companions.

Troughton played “General Mongerson”, in the final episode of the first season of this British series for BBC 1. The show was co-developed by Sydney Newman, the man credited with creating Doctor Who.

Troughton took over from William Hartnell in the regeneration scene at the end of the Season 4 serial, “The Tenth Planet”, and his first full appearance was in the following story, “The Power of the Daleks”. His era introduced the Ice Warriors and saw the creation of the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce (UNIT), led by Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart, to protect Earth from alien invasion. He continued to the end of season six, “The War Games” – the last to be shot in black and white – in which the Doctor is tried by his own kind, the Time Lords, and exiled to Earth with a new face. His regeneration into the Third Doctor, played by Jon Pertwee, was not filmed. Troughton reprised his role in the 10th anniversary story “The Three Doctors”, the 20th anniversary special, “The Five Doctors”, and in the season 22 serial, “The Two Doctors” with Colin Baker.
