An English actor and writer best known for his portrayal of the fourth incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who from 1974 to 1981. He has provided many voiceovers, including narration in the television comedy series Little Britain. Upon leaving military service he became an actor and his first major film role was as Rasputin in Nicholas and Alexandra (1971), followed by an appearance in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973), which led to his casting in Doctor Who. Doctor Who

Baker’s first story was “Robot” and he spent seven seasons in the role – the longest in the role to date. Still working on and off for UNIT, his era saw how the Daleks were created by Davros (“Genesis of the Daleks”), the introduction of the Zygons, the first Time Lady in Romana, and the robot dog, K-9. Season 16 formed a story arc concerning the search for the six segments of the Key to Time. Season 17 should have finished with “Shada”, which was aborted due to a strike at the BBC. Baker’s final story was “Logopolis”, at the end of which, Peter Davison took over. During his tenure, Baker recorded the first audio drama, “The Pescatons”. He turned down the chance to appear in the 20th anniversary special “The Five Doctors”, so footage form “Shada” was used instead. He did appear in the Children in Need/ 30th anniversary special “Dimensions in Time”, and began appearing in audio stories from 2009. Baker made a guest appearance as the Curator in the 50th anniversary story “The Day of the Doctor”.
